Become A Drummer - Level 1 - Lesson 3 Examples

Become A Drummer - Level 1 - Lesson 3

Here, we focus on 8th note grooves with a backbeat and vary the kick patterns.  If you are wondering what a "backbeat" is, it is simply refering to the snare drum on the 2 count and the 4 count (the back end of the groove).

The differing kick patterns (referring to the bass drum) develops independence in your bass drum foot, and will open you up to new groove ideas that you can take to different songs.  The first 3 videos below are examples 1, 3, 5 from Become A Drummer Level 1.  The videos include animated notation, a demonstration, and a chance to play along to some music at different tempos.  The 4th video is actually a playlist of ALL the example from Lesson 3.  At the very bottom, I have include a few clips of songs that use these kind of drum patterns.

Song Clips To Play Along To

Try to play along with them!  Just a heads up, these are clips of songs so there is no count off, and the song is already playing.  However, I tried to start each clip with 4 beats before you could jump in.

Sugar - Maroon 5
