Holding The Stick And The Rebound Stroke

Gripping The Sticks

This is a great demonstration on how to hold the sticks.

Now that you are holding the sticks, use the sticks!  The rebound stroke is one of the most used drum strokes that drummers utilize.  It allows the stick to bounce back to starting position so you can efficiently play with consistency and eventually, speed.

Now that you've practiced the rebound stroke, play along to any song you want.  Play the beat, but make sure you are using the rebound stroke!  If you'd like to play along to the next video, I am simply playing the beat on the high hat.  You can copy what I'm doing if you have one, or just practice the rebound stroke to the song on a practice pad or drum!
